Disney Cruise Line announces, from time to time, off-season specials on its 3-day, 4-day and 7-day cruises from Port Canaveral. Under these specials, the staterooms we promote the most heavily are those in Category 6. These staterooms have verandahs (balconies), hold a maximum of four people and measure 268 square feet. They are time and a half to double the size of a standard cabin on other cruise lines and have a very large sitting area in addition to the sleeping area. A limited number of connecting staterooms are available for families larger than four. For families of five, the Category 4, Deluxe Family Stateroom with Verandah is also an option. These staterooms hold five people and represent an excellent opportunity for larger families who would otherwise be forced to split into two cabins. Families of five may also opt for two connecting insides, oceanviews or verandahs, for added space and privacy. We have personally inspected and even sailed in every category of cabin on the ships, from the Walter E. Disney two-bedroom suite (Category 1) to the Standard Inside Stateroom (Category 12).

All staterooms on the two Disney Cruise Line ships with the exception of the lowest two categories of inside staterooms (Categories 11 and 12) have a bath and a half -- one with a sink and a shower, the other with a sink and a toilet. This is unheard of on other cruise ships.

The Disney Wonder^® departs Thursdays from Port Canaveral on 3-day sailings. Fridays are spent in Nassau and Saturdays are spent at Disney's wonderful private island, Castaway Cay. Castaway Cay features an all day beach party and barbecue. Unlike other cruise lines, who have to shuttle their passengers onto private islands by tenders (small boats), Disney docks right at Castaway Cay and you walk off the ship. 4-day sailings on The Disney Wonder depart on Sundays and visit the same two ports, spending the additional day at sea or in Freeport, depending on the sailing.

The Disney Magic^® departs Saturdays from Port Canaveral on 7-day sailings. Its fabulous one-week itinerary features St. Martin, St. Thomas and Castaway Cay.

The Disney Cruise Line is an excellent product for adults and children alike. The kids' clubs are open each day from 9:00 a.m. until midnight or 1:00 a.m., depending on the evening. Organized activities are available during these times for children from three to twelve years of age. Upon enrolling your children in the programs you will be given a beeper. Children nine and older are allowed to sign themselves in and out of the program if the parent so chooses. All others must be checked in and out by an adult who has been listed on the original registration form signed by the parent. The use of unique passwords provides additional security.

Teenagers have their own separate meeting area on the ship and their own, age-appropriate activities on a much more loosely organized schedule. There are also several optional shore excursions exclusively for teens. Teens who reluctantly agree to sail on Disney Cruise Line almost always find that their concerns were unfounded, and are eager to sail Disney again.

The cruise is a perfect vacation for families who want family time with the children as well as time as a couple. Single parents have often teamed up with friends to enjoy the trip together. The summer camp-like atmosphere for the children allows the adults to enjoy time on their own. Over the course of the cruise there is still be plenty of time to spend as a family as well.

Adults who choose verandah staterooms enjoy quiet time together on their balconies. Many couples take advantage of their balconies to enjoy a morning cup of coffee delivered by room service (complimentary) or a glass of wine at sunset. There is an adults-only restaurant that seats 130 people and serves gourmet meals in an intimate setting. In addition to the adults-only restaurant (reservations required), there are three other restaurants. Each has its own theme and its own menu, and you will rotate among all three for dinner, with your wait staff accompanying you.

The adults-only nightclubs include a lounge featuring dueling pianos (sing-along), a dance club with audience participation shows and a quiet, elegant piano bar. Studio Sea hosts both family and adults-only game shows throughout the evening. There is a 300-seat movie theater, which shows a selection of first-run movies of all ratings (from G to R) throughout the course of the cruise. A sports bar, a workout area with spa facilities and an adults-only pool round out the adult areas of the ship. In addition to the adults-only pool, there are family and children's pools with water slides.

As owners of the agency, my wife, Janice, and I have sailed on Disney Cruise Line forty-six times, generally accompanying groups. Our children have each sailed on twenty-five occasions. The trip offers such "quality" time as a couple that we have paid retail rates to sail twice on Disney without either our children or a group. All Seasons Travel has booked over 1000 couples on Disney who were traveling without children. All have come back raving about the ships and their activities. At this point, over a hundred of our couples have sailed Disney twice or more without children. Disney Cruise Line's ships are small enough for you to feel like you are part of the group, but large enough to get away from the group for quiet time alone. There are activities that offer an opportunity for your group to spend time together as well as activities that you will want to experience alone, as a couple or with your immediate family only.

Occasionally, Disney Cruise Line offers its most-discounted, Florida Resident Rates, which require that at least one adult in each cabin be a Florida Resident. Non-Florida Residents must be accompanied by Florida Residents to receive these rates. Other seasonal promotions do not require Florida residency.
